The Best Birthday Gift

Adeline gave me a wonderful birthday gift yesterday... she is doing so well with her feedings, her feeding tube was removed!  The doctor said her feeding tube would only be replaced if she did not meet her minimum feeding amount of 18 ccs for three consecutive feedings.  Since it was removed about 30 hours ago, she has exceeded the minimum for all feedings except one!  She is quickly learning that she needs to eat more before she falls asleep to avoid being hungry only an hour or so later.  She is also becoming more efficient with her sucking and swallowing.

Last night, the amazing NICU nurses made a birthday hat and sign for Adeline, and took her picture to make a birthday card for me.  They are just so thoughtful and it was a great surprise when I arrived for her night-time feeding. Rob took this picture with his cell phone:

Her cheeks are starting to fill out, making her weight gain noticable.  Now that the feeding tube was removed, she will be weighed nightly to make sure she is eating enough to gain weight.  Last night, she weighed 1895 grams, which is about 4 lbs, 3 oz.

At this rate, she will be home at the end of the week!
